The Hungry Ocean by Linda Greenlaw

The writing of this book was inspired after the writing (and success) of The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger. The author, Linda Greenlaw, is one of the sword boat captains in the same fleet as the Andrea Gail. She is mentioned rather frequently, and with much praise, in The Perfect Storm, and in her book she covers the details of a 30 day fishing voyage in the Grand Banks of the East Coast.
I read this book immediately after I had read The Perfect Storm and although they are similar in nature and subject matter, they could not be more different. As one with experience on boats and with nautical knowledge and lifestyle, The Hungry Ocean was refreshing in its almost analytical analysis of her experience as a woman on the sea and her account of her expedition.
Having said that... this book had so much potential and was interesting enough. It was more along the lines of a bragging right, which sounds harsh as I did enjoy the book, more than anything else. It was a seemingly long read and very factual. But not really a book I would read again, unless of course I am headed out on a sword boat.
